Campaigning!

Picture this, it's a beautiful Friday afternoon, the sun is shining and I can hear kids playing and laughing outside, there's nowhere else I'd rather be then outside enjoying the sun. There's just one little problem... I've procrastinated for so long doing this PR campaign for class that I'm missing out on the good times.

Instead, I am sitting at my desk, inside my apartment with the window open; at least I can enjoy the nice breeze coming in. With the curtains open and my coffee cup inches away, I plug away at this project that would have been done during spring break if I wasn't too busy enjoying the cloudy weather in Calgary. Oh the irony!

There's no sense in dwelling on this, I only have myself to blame for my procrastination. That in itself is punishment enough. I'd like to say that I have learned my lesson; however, time and time again, I have proven that I have a love hate relationship with deadlines.

Nevertheless, I have come to the conclusion that I get more things done when I don't have time to do anything at all. Perhaps it's because I am running on adrenaline and that I have no time to sit down to relax and ultimately, get lazy.

The production of this PR Campaign is no exception. Since this one is based on an actually business and I will be presenting it to the owner, I feel as though I am putting a little extra heart into it. No pressure or anything, after all it's only my career we are talking about (sarcasm detected?). My first of many attempts, but this one will kick things off.

I got to thinking.... Is a PR campaign ever complete? I've worked on my plan, turned away to do other things and come back to it later on just to realize that it's not quite perfect yet. The ideas keep rolling in and there's no sign of stopping. Might this be because I'm an avid perfectionist? Or, perhaps there's always more research that needs to be done?

Overall, I enjoyed the production of this PR campaign; they will only get bigger and better here on out. Bring it on PR, I'm ready for you!

  1. I know what you mean when you talk about procrastination! Luckily I have trained myself fairly well to avoid procrastination at all costs - Thanks to my handy dandy Agenda! I don't know what I would do without that thing!

I agree with your thought that a PR campaign never seems to be completely finished. I am also quite the perfectionist, but it has become quite clear to me that a PR campaign is never finished. There can always be more work done, more ideas added, and because it is a business these strategies and tactics can be continually put into action.

Being an artist I have determined that PR campaigns are very similar to painting pieces of art; Sometimes it's hard to walk away from them, and sometimes it's even harder to say "Ok I'm done". I've never been completely happy with the final result of a painting, but others have been quite pleased with the results.

My art teacher used to say, "If you have to ask "Is this good enough", it's usually not good enough". Perhaps wise words to live by?

I guess the best way to determine whether or not one is done a PR campaign is to think to oneself "Have I accomplished my objectives". This isn't always easy.
