Breaking down the Barriers of Mental Illness

Let’s talk about Mental Health.
Statistically speaking, 20% of Canadians will personally experience a mental illness in their lifetime and 8% of adults will experience MAJOR depression at some time in their life. Depression doesn’t mean that you’re having a bad day, or something just isn’t going the way you want it to, it’s an imbalance.

The causes of mental illness can be genetic, biological, personality, and environmental factors. When you suffer from mental illness, it’s not something that you can control or “get over”.
You must seek treatment.

Here is the most shocking statistic; 49% of those who feel they have suffered from depression or anxiety have never gone to the doctor. Why? Stigma or discrimination is a serious barrier to treatment. Mental illness CAN be treated. We must break down the barriers, talk about it, so that no one feels alone, ridiculed, or discriminated.
