The New Age Argument

Sometimes I wonder why dating is so different now than it was ten years ago. Come to think of it, do I even remember dating a decade ago? It seems like life was much simpler, what with the technology being where it was and where it is today.
Take online dating for example, I don't remember hearing much about it when I was in my early twenties as I do now. Every other commercial on late night television is on E-Harmony or something of the like. Statistics show that 1 in 5 relationships start from an online dating site.

Text messaging is more prominent now too. I don't remember getting my first text message until the age of 23, and I didn't even know how to respond to it (go figure)
That said, I've come to realize that we text more than we talk. Communication has many forms. A relationship can begin and end with a text message. This leads me to my original subject, the argument. There was a time when arguments were done face to face or over the telephone. Now, I find that arguments can occur on social media, email, and text messaging.

Quite a change from what we were accustomed to. Children no longer have to hear their parents fight, parents simply have to text their points of view to one another without a single word spoken. A benefit to say the least, the last thing children need to hear is their parent's arguing.
However, it makes me wonder, do we text more hurtful things that would be said if the other party was face to face with us? Do we get more BALLsy when we're not intimidated by the other person?

Thinking back on my last relationship, our disagreements were expressed via text message 95% of the time. We could be 'fighting' anytime and anywhere, but how dare we raise our voices to one another in each others' presence.
It's the norm of the new age, I suppose. Though we do get more of our side of the equation out for the other to read, it's definitely not best relationship practice.

Since we can't get away from it, we may as well know how to conquer this New Age Argument. Here are some tips and best practices.
1.    If you're going to start the fight, make sure you end it.

2.    Use vulgar language for emphasis.

3.    Make sure the text is long and winded, confusing.

4.    Throw them off intellectually, they won't know what hit 'em, so add in the big words whenever possible.

5.    Wait as long as possible to reply, this will piss them off even more.

Even though I don't condone text message fighting, this IS the new age argument, avoiding it is inevitable. Although having a good argument may be better in person, texting it allows you to reflect on what you will say rather than be lost for words or be intimidated by the other party.

Fighting via text doesn't only occur in relationships between men and women, friendships are also affected same as the relationship you have with your siblings. If you want to avoid it, state your intentions before you text, and don't let it get the best of you.
